"Close Call for Daisy" is the nineteenth episode of the sixth season of The Dukes Of Hazzard.

Summary[]

Daisy will be playing as a nurse in a play at the church. She carries her notes with her in a black book. Nervous Norman Willis (Mike Genovese), a neurotic crime boss, comes to Hazzard County to collect a debt from Boss Hogg. While Norman's limo is in front of the General Lee on the road, the General Lee backfires, and Norman, living up to his nickname, mistakes it for a gunshot. A scared Norman, who thinks he is having a heart attack, has his driver, Jake (Kaz Garas), rush him into town. In town, Norman and Jake see Daisy wearing a nurse uniform, and they do not realize that Daisy is wearing the uniform because she was practicing for the play. Jake gets Daisy's attention, and Daisy comes to help Norman. Norman puts his little black book next to him on the back seat. Daisy puts down her black book, which is identical to Norman's. Jake and Norman decide to go to the local hospital, but first, Daisy grabs her rehearsal notes -- or so she thinks. She has actually grabbed Norman's black book, which contains information on all of his crooked operations. When Norman discovers that he has the wrong black book, he is terrified that Daisy has the information that could put him in prison. He and Jake go out hunting for Daisy, with the intent to get the book and kill her, so that she will not reveal any information about their activities.

Plot[]

Balladeer: You know, some cars are like people, they can get real sick too. But in the General’s case it was just carbon building. But it sure picked a bad time. Because further on down the road, Bo and Luke were about to get all they could handle. You see that fellow sitting in the back? He’s the crime czar of the whole state, Norman Nervous Willis, so called ‘cause he’s convinced that the rest of the underworld is plotting against him. Now when you’re as edgy as Norman Willis and the General starts acting up like that, what would you think?

Road

Luke tells Bo to get after it a bit as they need the props the boys are carrying to start the dress rehearsal at the church. Bo says not to yell at him as it’s the General who is acting up and asks the General what is wrong. Meanwhile down the road is a black car with two men inside. The man in the back is mixing a drink and comments he doesn’t like the orange car that has been following them for the last ten miles. He says they must be Cutler and Monday’s boys. Jake, the driver, tries to assure Norman that no one would use a car like that for a hit. Suddenly the General backfires and Norman assumes the car behind them are shooting at them. He leans out the window and starts shooting, shocking Bo and Luke. Norman hits the radiator, forcing Bo to pull over. The two get out and Bo catches the license plate, asking what Luke assumes ‘N.W.’ stands for. Luke says he doesn’t know but he’s calling Rosco. Bo looks over the General.

Norman remarks that was close while trying to loosen his shirt. He expresses some chest pain before admitting he thinks he is having a heart attack. They head toward Hazzard, which they are five miles from. Meanwhile Bo and Luke, unable to reach Rosco or Enos call Cooter and wait for him to come get them.

Church

Daisy comes out of the church dressed as a nurse, wondering where Bo and Luke are. The pastor comes out with her and decides they should call off the dress rehearsal until tomorrow. He points out Daisy’s little black book, telling her not to lose the notes from the director and to leave the costume at the church so it can be taken to the cleaners with the rest. After the Pastor goes back in, Daisy heads to the street to wait for the boys a bit longer. She is startled when a black car comes rushing up. The driver, Jake, gets out and asks if there is a phone and a doctor. Daisy says there is a phone in the church and he can call Doc Appleby, and assuming Daisy is a nurse, he asks her to get in the car with Norman and do what she can while he calls a doctor. Daisy tries to explain she isn’t a nurse but seeing as the man is already gone she obeys the request. Daisy asks if she can help and Norman puts down his book that is identical to Daisy’s. He reaches out for her and Daisy puts her book down next to his to hold his hand. Norman assumes he is going to die before passing out. Jake returns to take him to see the doctor and Daisy picks up one of the books before watching them leave, putting the book in her pocket.

Road

Cooter finishes patching up the radiator and Bo says he is a surgeon. Luke adds he could have sworn they would need a new radiator. Cooter asks about the license plate again and Luke asks if Cooter still a friend at the DMV in Atlanta to which Cooter has says he will call but tells them to lay low. The boys ask him not to say anything to Uncle Jesse and add it to their bill. Cooter agrees to both.

Doctors Office

Having discovered the black book in the car is not Norman’s, he takes it into Norman. He asks if Norman is okay, and he confirms it. Jake says he hopes Norman has his book and Norman says Jake currently has it in his hands. Jake says it’s not his book and Norman reads it to confirm the fact. Norman realizes that the book has all the names and numbers off every racket he’s running and if the police see that they are done for. The two leave to find Daisy.

Town of Hazzard

Now changed, Daisy leaves the Church to head home. As she pulls out of town, the limo arrives at the church. Jake goes inside to ask about the nurse. Meanwhile Bo and Luke come into town from the other direction to see Rosco about being shot at. The two head into the police department.

Police Department

Rosco goes through the police dog training manual as Flash sleeps on his desk. He tells Flash to get up, which she doesn’t and he tries ‘at ease’ where she lays her head back down. The boys come in, startling Rosco and he tells them not to do that as they scared Flash. Bo apologizes to Flash but explains they had a scare of their own. Luke tells him about them being shot at and describes the limo. Rosco asks ‘why’ confusing the boys. Rosco says if he knows them, they did something to instigate it in the first place and as soon as they are done training they will go out and find out what the boys did. Offended the boys explain they were shot at. Rosco asks if they expect him to take their word against a man who isn’t there to defend himself. Bo says he gives up and Rosco asks if that means he wants to confess. Luke laughs as Bo, annoyed, tries to explain the situation again. Rosco dismisses them and Bo says he’s not well and they will take care of it themselves. Rosco tries to call them back, saying they can’t take the law into their own hands but the boys are gone. Rosco decides to chase after them.

Church

After learning  who Daisy is from the Pastor, Jake returns to the car and informs Norman that the nurse was just a normal girl named Daisy who was playing a nurse for the Church. Norman says they need to find her and Jake tells him to relax as Daisy just left in a jeep heading to the farm she lives on. Jake confirms he knows where the Duke’s live and the road Daisy is taking.

Police Department

Rosco goes over to Boss’ office, where Boss is taking a nap and startles him awake. Boss scolds him and Rosco tells him that the Dukes really got him upset now. Rosco tells them about the limo and hearing ‘N.W.’ and Boss concludes it’s Norman Willis, becoming alarmed. Boss says he needs to find an aspirin so that he won’t have a headache when they burry him. He goes into his private bathroom and takes one and Rosco tries to explain Norman was shooting at the boys not him. Boss tells him that it don’t make a difference. He says Norman will shoot at whoever he likes whenever he likes. Boss assumes Norman found out he was shortchanging him on the 50% of every deal he makes outside of Hazzard. Boss says if that is true then he is going to be killed.

Church

Bo and Luke drop off the props, apologizing. The Pastor tells them that rehearsal has been called off and Daisy already left. The pastor tells them that Daisy went home and that a few men in a limo came through looking for her. The boys become alarmed, learning it was the same limo that shot at them earlier and rush off after Daisy.

Road

Luke calls Daisy on the CB as Bo drives. Daisy asks where they have been and Luke says that isn’t as important as where she is now. Daisy tells him 9-14 coming up on the junction of 67. Luke asks if there is a black limo behind her. Daisy confirms it and says it looks like the one she saw about an hour ago. Luke tells her to stay calm but he wants her to know that the limo behind her took a few shots at him and Bo earlier. Daisy becomes alarmed and Luke says they don’t know why and they want her to stay ahead of the limo before doubling back and meeting them by Clear Creek.

Police Department

Boss tries to figure out what he can do to stay alive. He asks Rosco, and Rosco says if he was a crook he would go to some rich man’s house and take all the mans valuables to sell and get Boss off the hook. They add they aren’t crooks and can’t do that. Boss says they will rob the richest man in town, sell off all his paintings and antiques and pay off Norman. Rosco says they can’t do that but Boss says that the man he’s talking about will give them permission. Rosco asks who would do that and Boss says he means his house. The two rush out.

Road

Bo asks Luke what they are going to do. Luke says first they are going to draw the fire off of Daisy. Bo asks what is second and Luke hesitates before telling Bo to avoid getting hit. Bo says he was afraid that was what Luke was going to say.

Daisy continues to keep ahead the limo and calls the boys to say they are closing in. Luke tells her they are on the other side of the river from her and they can see her. The roads come together and they fall in behind the limo, getting noticed by Jake. Norman leans out the window and Luke tells Bo to do something. Norman hits the front tire, forcing the boys to stop. They continue to chase Daisy and Luke radio’s her to tell them they are out and she needs to lose them. Daisy agrees and drives off road. Jake stops, unable to follow her.

Daisy radio’s the boys, saying she lost them. Bo, who is changing the tire says he knew she could do it and “that’s our girl!”. Daisy asks what is going on and Luke says he doesn’t know. Cooter calls in from the Garage and says while he can’t help them with ‘why’ he has the ‘who’. He says his friend told him it was Norman Willis and is number one on the FBI’s list and number one on all his competitions hit parade. Daisy asks why they would want the Dukes. Cooter says he’s the type to shoot first and talk later. Luke says it’s time to get Uncle Jesse involved and asks Daisy to go by the house and get him and meet them at Timber Top in fifteen. Daisy agrees. Cooter agrees to be there too.

Duke Farm

Luke calls Uncle Jesse and fills him in on everything. Jesse is confused.

Hogg Family Home

Boss and Rosco start emptying Boss’ house and putting a number of items in a moving truck. Tow men notice and investigate when they go inside. The one asks the younger, Norm, what he thinks. The younger says ‘why not’. The two close up the truck and steal it. Boss comes out along with Rosco in time to see the men leaving with the truck. They attempt to chase them men but Rosco trips on a creeper, falling and breaking a vase.

Duke Farm

Norman and Jake search the Duke Farm but find nothing. Norman says Daisy must have it on her and Jake says she might have given it to the police. Norman says he hopes so because that would mean Boss Hogg has it. They leave to find him.

Timber Top

Daisy explains what happened at the church. Jesse says he couldn’t have really been sick. Bo says they can’t wait around for the guys and Luke suggests they do exactly that by making it well known they are at the farm. Cooter says they can all stake out different places and Daisy agrees saying she will take the hill overlooking the farm. Bo, Luke, and Jesse all object and Daisy becomes offended saying she is a member of the family too and they are after her just as much as the boys. Bo and Luke quickly calm her by saying they don’t want to put all the eggs in one basket. Bo says she would be the backup with the law. Cooter says Rosco isn’t going to be any help. Bo says Rosco might not but he knows a Deputy Sheriff who would bend over backwards to help Daisy. Bo heads to the CB and calls Enos. Enos responds to the call and promises Bo he will take care of Daisy.

Police Department

Rosco lays down with an ice pack on his head and Boss scolds him for letting the truck get stollen. Norman and Jake arrive unnoticed and Boss asks how he’s supposed to deal with the troubles he has with Norman. Norman asks what kind of trouble, alarming Boss. Boss begs Norman for forgiveness saying he will get it back. Norman, assuming Boss was talking about his book says Boss has it then. Boss admits he doesn’t but he will soon. He admits to shortchanging Norman, something Norman knew nothing about it to Boss’ horror. Norman says they can work something out and asks Rosco if Daisy turned anything over to him. Rosco says no and asks what is it but Norman says it’s none of their business and he wants her. Boss asks that he won’t hurt her and Norman promises he won’t. Boss and Rosco leave to find Daisy and Jake asks that Norman really won’t hurt Daisy. Norman says he meant what he said, as they will kill Daisy so fast she won’t feel a thing. They decide to look for the boys in the General Lee while they wait. They also decide to dump the limo.

Timber Top

Enos arrives and the others fill him in on what is going on. Enos says the State Police and the FBI have been after him as long as he can remember. Luke says they need Daisy to hid out and Enos says they can find her a safehouse and Bo asks if he knows one. Enos suggests his home and they all agree. Jesse says for Daisy to ride with Enos and he’ll take the jeep home. The Dukes and Cooter head to the farm as Daisy goes with Enos.

Road

Norman and Jake gets a new car and start looking for the General Lee.

Boss and Rosco head to the farm to find Daisy.

Duke Farm

The Dukes arrive to see the house is torn apart and start cleaning up. Cooter says it looks worse than the great tornado of 1938. Jesse says it proves that the men are looking for more than the Duke kids. Boss and Rosco arrive and come into the house and are surprised at the damage. Boss asks where Daisy is and Bo asks what they want with her. Boss says she has something that belongs to someone else. Luke asks if that other party is Norman Willis, which Rosco immediately confirms to Boss’ anger. Boss says it’s none of their business but Jesse says they aren’t saying a thing until they know what is going on. Boss and Rosco leave to find Daisy, messing up a phrase and causing Bo to laugh. Boss concludes Daisy couldn’t have gone far since her jeep is outside.

Room and Board

Luke calls Enos’ place and asks to talk to Daisy. Enos hands her the phone and Luke asks if there was anything Daisy took from the limo. Meanwhile Enos starts pulling down the many pictures he has of Daisy on the mirror. Daisy tells Luke she put down her little black notebook and picked it up again. Luke asks where it is and she says in her costume but it was taken to be cleaned. Luke says Norman thinks she has something of his and it’s possible they have the same book. Luke asks if Daisy ever looked in the book again and she says no. Luke says for her to sit tight until they run over to the cleaners.

Duke Farm

Luke asks if the others heard the conversation and Bo says whatever is in Norman’s notebook is something he doesn’t want anyone else to see. Luke and Bo head out to find the book, and the boys ask Cooter and Jesse to keep cleaning.

Road

As Bo and Luke head to town, they are spotted by Norman and Jake. Norman lights a stick of dynamite, tossing it through the window as the boys drive by. Seeing something get thrown in the car, the boys look back. Bo tries to grab the dynamite and Luke yells for him to get it out of the car. Bo manages to grab it and toss it out the window seconds before it blows up. Luke stops and Bo tells him that was cutting it too close. Luke says that wasn’t even the limo, so either Norman has a whole army there or they switched cars. Bo asks why they are trying to kill them since Daisy has the book. Luke reminds Bo that when Norman started shooting at them they hadn’t even met Daisy yet. Bo says he doesn’t understand and asks if they are going after the car. Luke says no and they need to find the book.

Down the road, Norman and Jake see they aren’t being followed and conclude the dynamite killed the boys. Norman says all that is left is for Boss to bring them Daisy and the book. Jake warns him that Boss will likely read the book and Norman says to be safe they’ll kill Boss too.

Town of Hazzard

Boss and Rosco try to figure out where Daisy would hide, finding Cooter’s garage empty. Boss protests and Rosco says you never know. He uses Cooter’s phone to call with Gussie’s help. Rosco talks to Wally, asking about Daisy and is told the only person who checked in was a blonde woman who was 135 pounds at 5’8’’ checked in as Jane Smith. Boss says Daisy isn’t that tall, heavy, blonde, and her name ain’t Jane. Rosco suggests she put on a disguise and suggests they check it out anyway.

The two head to the hotel and Rosco goes uses a ladder that a painter is to look in the window. The woman he was looking for assumes he was a peeping tom and confronts him at the window before pushing the ladder away from the building. Boss has a bucket of paint dropped on him and the ladder falls across a truck going through town, taking the two for a ride.

Bo and Luke arrive and stop at the cleaners. Mrs. Walker tells them that she mailed the book in Daisy’s pocket to the Farm. Luke says that the post office is closed and they will need to wait until morning.

Room and Board

That night Daisy and Enos have dinner and Enos praises her cooking. Daisy says she will do the dishes but Enos says he will do it. They get another call and it’s Luke. Enos hands the phone over. Luke, at the farm, tells Daisy they will get the book in the morning.

Duke Farm

As Luke, Bo, and Jesse do the dishes they talk about what all has been happening. Jesse asks what the boys are going to do with the book when they get it. Bo says they aren’t giving it to Rosco. Luke says they already called the FBI and made arrangements for them to pick up the book so by tomorrow night the whole mess should be over.

Room and Board

Daisy wears one of Enos’ shirts and Enos puts up a curtain to make her a room. Daisy says he’s such a gentleman and Enos asks if she wants him to turn off the light. She agrees and wishes him sweet dreams. Enos sits on the couch to sleep for the night.

In the morning Daisy makes Enos coffee and makes up the bed, Enos saying it is great to have coffee in the morning before work. Daisy asks if he’s sure he doesn’t want her to make breakfast. Enos says he would love that but he’s already running late for work. As Enos goes to leave Daisy stops him and kisses his cheek, accidently leaving lipstick on his face. She hugs him and Enos brushes it off before leaving. Daisy locks the door behind him. Bo calls from the farm and tells her that he and Luke are on the way.

Police Department

Rosco arrives for work only for Enos to crash into him from behind. Rosco protests the action, calling Enos an idiot and rushing over to scold him. He notices Enos is smiling and sees the lipstick. He asks what the red stuff is on the side of Enos’ face and Enos assumes he cut himself shaving. Rosco asks if he shaves with lipstick now and Enos says it must have been when Daisy kissed him. Rosco smiles, happy for Enos before he realizes Enos knows where Daisy is. Rosco grabs Enos’ tie and demands to know where Daisy is. Enos tells him that Daisy is staying with him.

Rosco goes into Boss’ office and asks for Boss to guess who is staying at Enos’. Boss asks if he means on Spring Lake Drive and guesses his mom, aunt Vinnie, and says he doesn’t know while Norman and Jake listen. Rosco, not having seen them, announce its Daisy. Norman and Jake stand up and Boss says they know where she is now. They go to get Daisy but Norman says they will do it. Boss reminds Norman of his promise that no one will get hurt. Norman says he gave his word.

Town of Hazzard

Daisy comes outside to wait for the boys only to be grabbed by Norman and Jake and put in the car. Bo and Luke arrive just in time to see her be kidnapped and chase after them.

Road

Norman demands Daisy hand over the book and she says she doesn’t have it. They notice the General Lee behind them and wonder how the boys found them so easily. Norman assumes Boss set them up and Daisy is in on the whole thing. Daisy tells them she has no idea what they are talking about but the car behind them is the General Lee and the two in it are her cousins Bo and Luke. Norman insists the two are working for Cutler and Monday and Boss. Daisy says the boys don’t work for anyone, especially Boss.

Bo, who is driving, asks what to do now. He says if they get too close the men could shoot Daisy. Luke says if they let them go they’ll probably shoot her anyway. Bo comments he wished they had the book then they could trade it for Daisy. Luke gets an idea, saying they know they don’t have it but the others don’t. Luke calls Norman on the CB, who responds. Luke says they got the book and suggests trading it for Daisy. Norman asks how is he to know they aren’t Culter and Monday’s boys and says they already shot at him. Luke and Bo, realizing what happened, explain that their car backfired. Jake says the boys are very likely what they saw they are and Daisy tells him to call Boss Hogg and check it out with him. Norman agrees and tells Luke if they telling the truth they will make a deal and in the meantime back off.

Bo stops the General and tells Luke that if they hand over the book the are all dead. Luke says he was thinking about that and they need to find a way to use Norman’s nerves to their advantage. Bo asks how and Luke notes Norman’s concern about the guys Cutler and Monday. Luke suggests they get a limo and have Uncle Jesse and Cooter show up at the right time, Norman would get spooked and they could grab everyone and give Enos the credit for the arrest.

Police Department

Boss scolds Rosco for telling Norman about where Daisy is. Boss is frantic and asks what to do now. Rosco asks if it’s a guessing game. They hear Norman calling for Boss on the CB and Norman asks about Bo and Luke, who Boss confirms knowing. Norman explains the boys are the ones with the property and Boss says they will get the boys. Norman says they are going after the boys, he just wanted to confirm who they were. Boss decides they will find the boys first and he and Rosco go looking for the boys.

Town of Hazzard

Bo exits the post office, thanking Miz Tisdale and promising to say hello to Uncle Jesse for her. As he unpacks the book and gets in the General, he vents to Luke about how she made him take a number when he was the only person in there. Luke jokes back asking why Bo would take her number. Meanwhile Norman calls for Luke over the CB as Bo gets behind the wheel. Norman says to meet them at the junction of Old Post Road and County 27 in thirty minutes. Luke changes channels and calls Cooter and Jesse, who are both in a limo wearing suits. They confirm they heard the call and are waiting. Luke then checks in with Enos, who is also tracking. Bo hands the book to Luke before heading out of town.

Boss and Rosco see the boys and chase after them. Bo tells Luke they won’t be following for long.

Road

Bo jumps over a truck that is across the road and Rosco says he can do it. Boss disagrees but Rosco tries anyway, flipping the car. The boys stop long enough to check on them.

Jesse, pretending to be a federal officer, makes a report on the CB to the Hazard Police saying Cutler and Monday is thought to be in Hazzard. Norman and Jake, who are at the meeting point, hear the report. Norman becomes frantic and Jake says they can’t leave without the book. Bo and Luke then arrive and get out of the General. Norman asks for the book but Luke says they need Daisy first. Bo points out the limo coming up and they toss Daisy to the boys before grabbing the book from Luke and bolting. Bo, Luke, and Daisy get in the General and chase after them. Jesse and Cooter follow.

Bo follows Jake down the road and Enos comes from the other end. Jake turns and passes Bo, who turns to follow him. Cooter turns and falls in behind Enos. Luke tells Norman to keep on driving as the road ends at the Steel Plante. When the road ends, Jake and Norman run on foot. The boys stop and chase after them, Daisy staying with the car.

Steel Plant

Norman and Jake run up a hill. They turn and shot at Bo and Luke who take cover. Norman starts having issues again as they continue to run. Luke asks if Bo is alright and Bo snaps that of course he is before they start chasing the men again. The four run across a set of train tracks and Norman and Jake stop to shoot again. They run to a staircase in the plant and stop to shoot at Bo and Luke again. Luke tells Bo to look out as they take cover. Bo and Luke then run to the staircase and Luke tells Bo to keep after them and he’s going to go around and cut them off. Bo tells him ‘thanks a lot’ but does.

Reaching the first level, Jake has Norman continue to run while he stops. Bo reaches him and freezes as Jake is positioned to shoot him. Jake pulls the trigger twice but is out of bullets. Bo tackles him and they fight before Bo knocks him out. Meanwhile Luke finds and corners Norman, but he is in too much pain to do anything allowing Luke to easily capture him.

Balladeer: Well the Duke luck was with old Luke, you see besides being nervous old Norman was also a coward, somebody else had to do his killing for him up close. Uncle Jesse and Cooter radio’ed the FBI and told them where they was at. And Norman and Jake would be the guest at the federal prison for more years than they had left. Boss got off the hook with Norm but no Lulu. Lulu wanted everything just like it was, and though old Boss collected his insurance for the stuff that was stollen from him, the insurance paid for what the stuff cost when Boss bought it years ago. We all know how prices have gone up. As for the Dukes well tonight was the opening night for the Hazzard church’s little theater group players. And just like everything else here in Hazzard, the show must go on.

Jesse, Daisy, Cooter, and Enos watch as the FBI take custody of Norman and Jake. Enos congratulates the boys.

Hogg Family Home

Boss has new furniture delivered to the house to replace what was stolen. Boss oversees the unloading.

Church

As night falls, people file into the church to watch the play.
