"Cooter's Girl" is the twelfth episode of the sixth season of The Dukes Of Hazzard.

Summary

18-year-old Nancy Lou Nelson (Kim Richards) comes to Hazzard to see Cooter, and Nancy Lou turns out to be Cooter's long-lost daughter. Years ago, Cooter and local girl Beverly Hibbs ran away and got married. Back then, Cooter was still somewhat of a wild man. Beverly's father had the marriage annulled, but not before Beverly got pregnant. Because of his wild side, Beverly and Cooter agreed that it would be better if she raised Nancy Lou alone. Now, Cooter tries to be the picture of respectability, but it seems like Cooter just cannot avoid brushes with a pair of strangers named Collins (David Gale) and Buck Morgan (Jack Yates), who are the leaders of a group that is planning to dump toxic waste in Hazzard County. Nancy Lou starts believing that Beverly was right about Cooter, and Nancy Lou plans to leave town. Bo, Luke, and Cooter set out to stop Collins and Morgan, and the Dukes try to help Cooter redeem his image in the eyes of Nancy Lou. When Boss Hogg learns what Collins and Morgan are up to, he makes it clear that he does not want toxic waste in Hazzard County.

Plot

Balladeer: Now wheels ain’t the only thing fascinating to a Duke. Old Luke had glider training in the Marines so he and Bo decided to switch vehicles with their buddy Darcy. Now everybody knows that they can make the General fly. Looks to me, like they can make anything fly. Now ain’t that like a Duke? They’ll even stop in midair to help somebody in trouble.

Bo and Luke are in a glider, pulled by the General Lee which is driven by Darcy. Luke drops the tow cable and the boys look around. Bo remarks how small all the cars look. The boys watch as a pickup runs a stop sign, running a brown car off the road and into a ditch. The boys become alarmed and head back to land the glider. Luke lands and they get out before running over to the General and Luke says for them to fly. Bo says they just finished flying before he drives them to the accident.

Bo and Luke met Nancy Lou. They ask if she’s alright and she explains that she can’t move the car and it’s very important she gets to Hazzard. Luke says he noticed her plates were from Alabama and she says she is looking for someone. When Bo asks who, she asks if they know Cooter Davenport. Bo says he’s their buddy and the boys agree to take her to him. Luke says since it’s break-time Cooter should be at the Boar’s Nest. Luke offers to show her. The boys push her out of the ditch and they head to the Boar’s Nest.

Boar’s Nest

Buck and Collin’s arrive at the Boar’s Nest and Daisy tells the bartender Bob to hurry up with the beer. Collins and Buck ask Daisy if she knows where Boss Hogg is and she says he should be in town. Buck takes the beer off Daisy’s tray and she tells him that the beer belongs to Jesse and she will get him one. He drinks it and Cooter, who was sitting with Jesse, stands up and insists it was Jesse’s. Jesse tries to calm him but Buck throws the beer in Cooter’s face and a fight breaks out.

Bo and Luke arrive and Bo remarks that he thinks he hears a fight. Going inside, they see Daisy trying to get them to stop fighting and Collin’s trying to pull off Buck. Collins gets up Buck and Luke gets Cooter while Bo puts himself between them asking what is wrong. Bo tells him to stop it and everyone finally does. Bo asks what is wrong and Cooter says that the man was messing with Daisy. Bo turns to start fighting with Buck and Luke yells at Bo, pulling him back. Buck takes the chance to hit Bo. Luke then punches him in the face. Jesse yells for everyone to quit and the two men flee. Bo asks if Cooter is alright and he says maybe. Nancy Lou asks to confirm he is Cooter Davenport before announcing to everyone that he is her father. The Dukes move aside to give them a moment but still listening. Nancy Lou explains she had turned 18 the week before and she was told about how her mom and Cooter got married and how her mom’s parents ended the relationship because of how much Cooter was in trouble. Nancy Lou yells that her mom was right and Cooter hadn’t changed before she goes to storm out.

Daisy quickly stops her, saying she is making a mistake and Cooter didn’t start that fight.Nancy Lou denies it and says she only came there because she was hoping she would have a father she could look up to and maybe even love. Cooter tries to talk to her but she storms off. He chases after her and the Dukes chase after him. They watch Nancy Lou get in her car and drive away. Daisy asks that it was his daughter and says they didn’t know he had a daughter. Cooter says he and Beverly Hibbs ran off and got married one weekend when they were in high school. Jesse says her folks had that annulled and Cotoer confirmed it was. He says he was biter about it for a while but even he has to admit he was wild in those days. He says Beverly was taken to Alabama and later he learned they had a daughter. Bo asks why Cooter never said anything about her and Cooter says he never told anyone. After Beverly got remarried they all figured it was best Nancy Lou didn’t know. Cooter remarks that the first time she saw him he was in a brawl. Luke tells him to go back to his place and get cleaned up and he and Bo will go and talk to her. Cooter tries to decline but Bo insists they will bring her back. Jesse tells Bo to get in the back as he’s going with them. As the boys leave, Daisy assures Cooter he is a great guy and when Nancy Lou gets to know him she will see that.

Town of Hazzard

Boss, Enos, and Rosco lead an exercise route in the Hazzard Square for Health Week. Boss also encourages one woman in the front, Mrs. Crabtree, to lift her legs. Flash barks at the people, amused. Boss takes a break in the exercise saying the special health week assessment is due and payable. Rosco and Enos hand around health products and shirts to sell. Meanwhile Buck and Collins arrive, approaching Boss. They ask about buying the land at Spruce Hills, something Boss says he hasn’t been able to get rid of for years before quickly trying to claim that the proper person hasn’t wanted it in years. The men claim they want to set up a sheep ranch. Buck adds that they have already seen it and they like it. Boss invites them into his office, leaving Rosco to take over the exercises.

Road

Having caught up to Nancy Lou; Bo, Luke, and Jesse talk to her. Luke points out that it isn’t fair for her to leave without hearing anything Cooter had to say and Bo adds it’s not fair to her either after all the way she traveled. Luke says what happened isn’t what it seems like and Nancy agrees to give Cooter a chance. Jesse decides to ride back with Nancy Lou as he is getting a little too old to climb in and out of windows. He makes a show of opening the door, saying for the boys to notice the hinges.

Town of Hazzard

Rosco, Enos, and the citizens of Hazzard do jumping jacks. Rosco calls the exercise to an end, telling everyone they did good and he’s proud of them. Enos notices Mrs. Crabtree is still jumping and tries to tell her she can stop. She refuses to stop and Rosco orders Enos to stop her. Enos ends up picking her up.

Luke drives toward town with Nancy Lou following. Bo CB’s Cooter, who is shaving, and lets him know they are on the way. Cooter tells him he isn’t ready yet and Bo tells him to just be himself and he’ll be fine. Cooter mentions she is cute, which Bo heatedly agrees with saying he doesn’t know where she got it from. Bo adds they will be there in fifteen minutes.

Boss finalizes the sale of the land. Collins implies that they may buy more property in the future and Boss happily welcomes them to Hazzard before tossing them out. As he closes the door he celebrates the sell of worthless land. Outside meanwhile the two remark about how Boss bought their story and how Boss would be upset if he learned what they really bought it for. Collins says to call their clients as they now have a place to dump the toxic waste. Buck says Collins can call but he needs to get gas.

Hazzard Garage

The two pull up to see a ‘closed’ sign on the garage. Ignoring Collin’s protests, Buck decides to just take the gas they need. Cooter comes out, wearing a suit and tells Buck they are closed. Buck says he’s being a pest and they are taking the gas. Cooter tells them he doesn’t want any trouble and to hang up the pump. Buck refuses and starts another fight. Collins watches, exasperated, until the General Lee arrives. Bo and Luke get out to separate them and Nancy Lou yells for them to stop. Luke picks up Cooter and Bo gets between Cooter and Buck. Collin’s pays Cooter for the gas and they leave. Bo notices it’s the same men from the Boar’s Nest and Luke recognizes the pickup as the one that ran Nancy Lou off the road. Bo wonders what they want with Cooter and Cooter explains they were stealing gas.

Nancy Lou is furious and Jesse suggests they go to the farm and make lunch as the boys get the place straighten up. Bo says that sounds like a good idea and Nancy Lou agrees. Cooter tells Nancy Lou that there hasn’t been a day he hasn’t thought about her. She and Jesse leave and the boys try to assure Cooter it will be fine when they notice a wallet. Bo is surprised by the amount of money in it. Luke finds there is nothing else in there and the boys say they will go after the two. Cooter days to get cleaned up. Bo once again assures Cooter it will be fine.

Collins’ tells Buck that he needs to control his temper but Buck says it’s part of their cover. Meanwhile Bo drives the General, jumping across country and catching up to the pickup. Bo catches up to it and Luke tells them to pull over. When they refuse Luke asks if Bo can pass them and Bo goes around the pickup before cutting it off. Buck is furious and Luke says they were just returning his wallet. Luke gives it to him and Buck quickly checks the money and Bo assures him the money is all there. Collins tries to pay them for their assistance but the boys refuse. When Buck insults Cooter, Bo gets defensive but Luke deflects, asking what brings them to Hazzard. They tell Luke they are sheep ranchers and Luke asks if they are bringing in ‘winter wool or long coat’. When the men leave Bo remarks he didn’t know Luke knew anything about sheep. Luke says he doesn’t know much but those guys don’t know anything since he just made that up. Bo asks why they want the land and Luke says he doesn’t know. They head back to Cooters and Bo is upset he didn’t’ get the license number but Luke says he did.

Buck is worried about how nosy the two were. Buck suggests killing the boys but Collins reminds him they need to keep a low profile and decides to get Boss Hogg to help them.

Nancy Lou says that her mom told her Cooter was in trouble with the law and he admits he was, but he never hurt anyone but himself.

Inside Jesse and Daisy do the dishes while Luke talks to Skip on the phone and Bo listens. Luke says if Skip ever gets out to Hazzard he will owe him enough beer to float him back to Atlanta. Luke hangs up and tells them that the pickup belongs to the Swanee Transport Company. The rest of the Dukes express confusion and Jesse notices Enos and Rosco pulling up to the farm. Bo says he’s going to stay inside and Luke asks where his spirit of adventure is. Bo says it’s gotta be about the fight. All four Dukes go outside and Rosco says he’s arresting them. Daisy points out their guest and Rosco says Nancy Lou should choose better company. Rosco says he isn’t just going to arrest the boys he’s going to put them on the county work gang. Luke asks for the charges and Rosco says it’s assault. Cooter informs Rosco and Enos that Collins and Morgan started the fight and Bo and Luke broke the fight up. Enos confirms the statement but Rosco insists on arresting the boys. Cooter says he won’t let Rosco arrest them and Rosco threatens to arrest Cooter too. The boys try to calm down Cooter but Cooter says he was the one who was fighting. Excited, Rosco decides to arrest him too.

Luke says he knows the men are up to something and they should go over to the property and see what the men bought it for.

Rosco calls Boss while Enos helps the fishermen. Boss is in his office getting a message. Rosco remarks about how strange he sounds and Boss says he had back pains. Rosco admits the boys got away and blames Enos. Boss says for him to keep chasing the Dukes.

In the car, the boys try to assure Cooter they just all went for a walk or something.

Nancy Lou reaches her car and tells Jesse and Daisy that she was wrong to come because Cooter isn’t what she imagined him being. Daisy becomes angry, telling Nancy Lou that she doesn’t know anything about Cooter and if she wants to leave and lose the only chance she will get in meeting her father than Daisy won’t try to stop her. Jesse scolds Daisy and says that Nancy Lou is going to have to make up her own mind. Nancy Lou tells Daisy that she’s right, that she doesn’t know anything about Cooter and she has decided to stay until she does. Jesse says in the meantime the three of them are going to go see Boss and get him to drop the assault charges. They all three get in Dixie and head to town.

Luke says he’ll leave Bo and Cooter there and he’ll drive away to make everyone think they left. Luke slows down and Bo and Cooter scramble out of the car before Luke continues on.

Bo and Luke reach the fence and go to cross it but Buck and Collins arrive. Collins is surprised to see Bo, saying he thought Bo was supposed to be arrested for assault. Collins decides to call the sheriff and have the two arrested for trespassing. However Luke comes speeding back in the General, causing the two to dive to the ground and Cooter and Bo climb in before Luke speeds away. Boss refuses to talk to them and tries to go forward but Daisy stops him again. Daisy explains what happened at the Boar’s Nest and Nancy Lou says her father didn’t do anything. Boss asks who her father is and they explain it’s Cooter, to Boss’ shock. Boss assumes they are tricking him and gets around them to Rosco. Rosco excitedly leaves with Boss and Flash. Daisy says at least the boys aren’t caught. Nancy Lou says the situation is just getting worse but Jesse and Daisy assure her this is just how Hazzard is before calling the boys.

Bo answers the CB and tells him they are going to see Darcy. Jesse tells them that JD is looking too. Nancy Lou asks if she can talk to Cooter, which Jesse relays to Bo, who relays it to Cooter. Cooter was the hero of the day, along with the boys naturally, and Cooter sure did look good in the eyes of his daughter. Of course we loved him all along. Boss called off the land deal and the bad guys got tossed in the jug. Now that’s alright. No wonder folks don’t ever want to leave Hazzard.

Police Department

Boss has Rosco and Enos arrest Collins and Buck.

Duke Farm

Cooter reads a newspaper article in front of Nancy Lou, Bo, Luke, and Daisy. Jesse comes out with a picnic basket and presents it to Cooter and Nancy Lou. Cooter asks Nancy Lou what she thinks and she says nothing would make her happier and the two go off to have lunch.
