Soundtrack

Flash is a song from The Dukes of Hazzard Soundtrack released in 1981 and sung by James Best. It was later released as a single. The song is told from Rosco P. Coltrane's point of view about his dog Flash.

In the soundtrack, the song was played between In the Driver's Seat and Down Home American Girl.

Lyrics[]

Rosco: Now Flash, you and me will just hide here in the patrol car behind this billboard sign and ambush the General Lee on the way to the race! Oh, oh, oh, there, there they go! Move over, move over Flash, so I can drive. Will you...Flash, move it over. Flash, you got to move over faster than that. No, they're gettin' away. Flash! Just let me drive. Where's that worthless dipstick of a deputy of mine?

My old dog, his name is Flash

I don't know why 'cause he ain't too fast.

He runs two steps, then he runs outta gas

In a one dog race he'd come in last. Hehehe

Singin' "Go Flash Go!"

But he just stretch and yawn

Singin' "Go Flash Go!"

But he just lay on the lawn

Scratchin' dem fleas. Wrinklin'

That old Flash, he ain't too good,

At chasin' them possums through the wood.

He never does a thing he should,

He just sleeps and eats his food.

I can't blame him. He's restin'.

Singin' "Go Flash Go!"

But he just stretch and yawn.

Singin' "Go Flash Go!"

But he just lay on the lawn.

Oh, he's a cute little rascal

Well, he's not exactly little, he's fifty pounds of wrinkles.

I love every one of 'em, He's got wrinkles on his eyebrows.

But he's mean, I tell you he hates Boss Hog.

You think he'd give him a chomp in a minute. So he can't be all bad can he?

But he, he loves the Duke boys. Hell, I don't mind 'em once in a while.

I like to chase 'em, hot pursuit! And Flash is there with me,

And he buckles up for safety 'cause he knows he can get scuffed.

Oh, he's a good dog. Oh, he's got wrinkles. That's sexy though, you know?

I just love that dog. I love him, I love him, I love him, I love him.

Cold nose and all.

Sleeps with me, sometimes. Mama don't care. Hogs the covers.

What a sweet little critter.

Boss: Alright, here I am at the track and that race is about to begin. And looky, look, look, look, look, looky there! Rosco didn't stop Bo and Luke Duke from gettin' to the startin' line. And, and they ain't the only ones, my goodness. Look at all those fancy cars. And ain't it just nausiatin' the way that fancy-pants driver sweet talkin' Daisy Duke. What's he sayin'? 'What's a girl like you doin' in a place like ect. ect. and stick with me and I'll show you ect. ect. ect.'

Trivia[]

  • When this song was written, Flash was still treated as a male dog in the show.
  • Rosco talks about a race during the beginning of the song, playing off the running story line of the soundtrack where Rosco and Boss are trying to prevent the Dukes from winning a big race.
