Big Jim threatens Boss if Melanie doesn’t win. Boss says the only competition she has is Daisy and he made it so Daisy can’t enter.

The Dukes continue driving to see road barriers. Luke says Cletus put them up about thirty minutes ago and there is no real detour. Bo decides if that is the case to just go through it.

Town of Hazzard

Rosco asks for his $2500 now and Boss says he isn’t getting any of it as he needs it all to build his solar powered still. Rosco snaps that there isn’t such thing. Cooter is walking by snacking and hears the conversation as Boss explains the solar powered still and hears Rosco add that they need to make sure Daisy doesn’t enter.

Road

Bo goes through a puddle in the road and Cletus watches in a tree, radioing back to Rosco.

Town of Hazzard

Rosco waits for the report as Cletus falls out of a tree. Cletus manages to tell them that the boys went through check point Alpha. Boss starts to get upset but Rosco says they still have check point bravo. Boss decides not to take the chance, telling Rosco to take the clock into his office. Realizing what they are doing, Cooter becomes annoyed and heads to his garage. Big Jim watches from the side walk with the others and tells his group to wait there why he goes to see what Boss is up to.

Hazzard Garage

Cooter goes into his garage and calls the Dukes on the CB. When asked what is on his mind he remarks ‘J.D. Hogg is on my mind as usual’ and informs them that Boss moved the time clock indoors.

Police Department

Boss has Rosco put the clock on his desk before saying to shove something against the door. Boss tires to shut the door, but Big Jim is standing in the doorway.  Boss lets Jim in before telling Rosco to barricade the door. Rosco puts a potted plant and Boss yells at him to use a chair or something else. Rosco uses a nearby chair. They conclude they are safe.

Town of Hazzard

The Dukes arrive to find the road they were using blocked by the patrol cars. They get out and Bo, Luke, and Daisy run on foot. Jesse gets out slower, threatening to get a saw to fix the doors. The three kids see the building is closed. Luke gets an idea and grabs some rope off a nearby truck.

Rosco tells them they are arrested for trespassing. Bo says he’s too late and Luke reminds him it’s a county building. Daisy uses the time clock, entering with only seven seconds left. Bo and Luke move the chair from the door and the three leave.

Outside the Dukes celebrate their victory at entering Daisy when they see Melanie and the guards. Melanie recognizes Daisy and when Daisy asks who she is she tells them they can call her Miss Tri-County. Luke asks that she is jumping the gun and she says she just wanted to give Daisy a chance to quit before she walks off. Bo remarks she’s a modest little cuss and Luke wonders if she knows something they don’t. Daisy disregards it and reminds Luke he promised to show her how to rebuild a carburetor. They head over to Cooter’s.

Police Department

Jim shakes Boss, furious and accusing him of welching.  Jim says he wants to do things his way and Boss begs him to leave the money with him and that he doesn’t want anyone hurt. Luke, Bo, Cooter, and Jesse watch Daisy assemble a carburetor. When she finishes Jesse check the time saying she did it in two minutes and fifty-four seconds. Cooter says he couldn’t do better himself, Bo saying the same for him. Daisy says if she wins it’ll be because of them. Bo says she will win but Jesse says that Boss will try to keep her from winning. Daisy remarks that doesn’t make sense since it will be publicity for the Boar’s Nest. Bo says he’s probably saving the prize money for Lulu and Luke agrees they should be ready for every possibility.

Boar’s Nest

Boss tries to calm everyone down in the Boar’s Nest to introduces the contestants, starting with Deputy Lue Ann Milsap of Riverton County, then Melanie. When he goes to introduces Daisy he calls her the last and least, claiming her name escapes him. Luke stands up to introduce her properly and the crowd claps for her enthusiastically. Boss explains that the contest has three parts; beauty, driving, and mechanical ability. He says the first is the mechanical part and they each have a disassembled carburetor. The three women go in the booths and Boss tells them to start. Jesse remarks that Boss has something up his sleeve but Bo says that Daisy can take care of herself. Cletus puts down curtains and Melanie and Lue Ann turn on the lights. Daisy finds her light is broken through. Boss verifies with Rosco that Daisy can’t see anything.

Daisy comes out of her booth announcing she is done. Boss argues she couldn’t have finished so fast ‘considering the circumstances’ and Daisy asks if he means the light not working. Luke explains that he taught Daisy to put together the part blindfolded, like he learned to in the marines. Boss asks if Daisy actually put it together right. Daisy asks if he means the jet valves that were missing. Daisy decides to forfeit and when Bo, Luke, and Cooter get upset Jesse supports her. He then tells Boss that Daisy will win the other two.

Police Department

Boss works out in a red jump suit. Rosco bursts in, celebrating and announcing he has good news. Boss snaps at him for ruining his exercise as he needs to find a way for Melanie to lose the race tomorrow. Alarmed as the threat to both of them, Rosco tries to get on the tread mill as well to get some exercise in, but Boss forces him off. Rosco tells him that the paper guarantees Daisy can’t win the race and Boss snaps that no one can beat Daisy if she is driving the boy’s General Lee. Rosco begs him to read the paper and Boss does to find Daisy’s driver’s license expired. Boss celebrates the news and tells Rosco to go arrest Daisy. When Rosco leaves Boss realizes he’s safe.

Rosco stops and gets soaked. The Dukes decide to go back for them and Rosco says he’s giving Daisy a ticket. Daisy checks her license to see it expired last week. Bo tells Rosco it doesn’t matter as Daisy wasn’t’ driving but Rosco reminds them that Daisy can’t drive in the race. The Dukes leave.

Town of Hazzard

After parking at the Court House the three go inside. When they go into the motor office they are greeted by Boss. Bo asks what he’s doing there and Boss explains Burn Baskin, the regular examiner, is on vacation and he’s the substitute. Daisy decides to take it anyway but boss explains he can’t give his first exam until tomorrow. The Dukes become upset as the race is that afternoon. Boss suggests they go to another county. The Dukes storm outside and Luke says they will go to Chickasaw County. Daisy refuses at first but Bo reminds Daisy that the 4H club is depending on the $500 Daisy will give them when she wins. Luke says they can do it. Bo gets behind the wheel and they leave.

Court House

Boss reads the book, realizing he may actually have to give a test. Rosco comes in and asks why Boss told Daisy where to go. Boss says he’s giving the Dukes a double whammy as the boys will break their probation going to Chickasaw. Boss has Mabel connect him to Little. Rosco becomes alarmed saying Little is too honest. Boss argues he can trust Little enough to arrest the boys.

Chickasaw County

Sheriff Little is waiting near the county line as the Dukes come in. Bo remarks the DMV is about 10 minutes away from the county line and asks Daisy how long the test will take. Daisy tells him to give her a half hour. Bo says that is cutting it close but they will get there back. Luke says it’s going too smooth before saying there must be a catch. Sheriff Little falls in behind them and Bo tells them to hang on. Luke says to drop Daisy off at the DMV and stay ahead of Little until Daisy gets her license. After they’ll pick her up. Daisy agrees.

Chickasaw

Jesse agrees, saying ‘providing she’s here to say it. He checks his watch to see where the boys are and decides to check on them.

Road

Daisy notes Little is still behind them and Bo says as long as he isn’t close enough to arrest them. They hear Jesse on the CB  and tell him they are about ten miles north of Chickasaw City. Jesse asks why are they are going north as it is going away from Hazzard, but Luke says Little is chasing them. Luke and Daisy see the road is blocked and try to have Bo stop, but Bo says it’s too late and takes the car up on two wheels to get through the rocks. Little is surprised and finds himself unable to follow.

He says he heard Jim tell Boss that Daisy was just with ‘they’ until the end of the contest. When the Dukes press for information Cletus says no one tells him nothing, he’s just a second cousin twice removed. Bo and Luke decide to go look for her, having Jesse stay to ensure Daisy isn’t disqualified.

Seeing the Duke boys bolt out, Boss realizes something is wrong. Cletus overhears them and says he guesses the Dukes didn’t believe him when he told them Daisy was fine and would be released after the contest. Alarmed and realizing the boys were going to rescue Daisy, Boss sends Rosco and Cletus after them.

Big Jim took the $10,000 back which threw ol’ Boss into a near terminal shock. Which means that he got hungrier than normal, course Rosco came to the rescue there. Sort of. And Daisy won the contest as the best all around gal in three counties. Shoot, I could have told them that.

Continuity

  • Hatchape County is mentioned again. the County hasn't been seen since Season 2
  • Luke tells Boss that in the marines it's a standard procedure to dissemble and reassemble a carbine, a rifle, blindfolded and he used that method to teach Daisy how to assemble carburetors.
  • Daisy is kidnapped from the Duke House on her way to the contest much like Luke was in And In This Corner, Luke Duke
  • When Bo helps Jesse in the car, Luke comments Jesse needs to lay off the flapjacks in the morning. This is the third time Luke has made that comment, telling Daisy and Boss that in previous episodes.

Trivia

  • A continuity error in this episode is that Jesse Duke is able to call Daisy, Luke, and Bo on the CB while they are in Chickasaw and Jesse is at the Boar's Nest. In the previous episode when Luke had wanted to call Little, he and the antagonist had expressed Luke had to be on the other side of Iron Mountain, a few miles away from the Boar's Nest, to be able to reach. However it does prevent Cooter, who is in town, from calling them in Chickasaw.
  • Melanie's race car is the same car Cooter built and Luke drove in the episode Duke vs. Duke.
